The long talked-about liberal talk radio network has finally found an affiliate in New York - WLIB-AM, The Post has learned.
Air America, as the network will be known, is also expected to announce that outspoken comedian Janeane Garofalo will join pit-bull humorist Al Franken in its line-up.

Rush just mentioned him today. He said that they're going to put that guy on forty stations. Please suck up all that liberal money.

If the station intends to break even, these hosts will have to work for practically nothing. At least they'll be paying the hosts what they're worth.

"WLIB, owned in part by former Manhattan Borough President Percy Sutton and run by his son, Pierre, broadcasts a strong signal over New York City, Westchester and a nice chunk of eastern New Jersey. "
I just had to highlight that the owner of the station is named Percy and he named his son Pierre. I guess he wanted his son to have a more 'manly' sounding name and Pierre is as tough as he wanted to go.

I think some stupid Dems will fund this through the summer and up to the elections.
This is about all they have besides the Nightly News, Wash Post, NY Times, CNN, PMSNBC, LA Times, etc.

Percy Sutton, lawyer for Malik el Shabazz a.k.a. Malcolm X
In 1995, Sutton became a member of the delegation of leading American business people selected by U.S. Secretary of Commerce Ron Brown (Sutton should be thankful that he is still alive)
Very close friend of Charlie Rangel

In 1998, Sharpton paid a $65,000 libel judgment with help from Graves, Lewis and Percy E. Sutton, co-founder of Inner City Broadcasting, and Pierre Sutton, Percy Suttons father, Sharpton told American Prospect magazine. The payment settled a suit brought by New York prosecutor Steven Pagones, whom Sharpton had named as a participant in the alleged rape of a black teenager named Tawana Brawley.
In 1999, Sutton, Graves and Lewis were among the first to be arrested at a sit-in protest organized by Sharpton after the death of Amadou Diallo, the unarmed Bronx peddler who was shot 41 times by New York City police. They were also among a group prominent African Americans who endorsed Republican Michael R. Bloomberg for mayor of New York in 2001.

Do we get to hear the sound of Jeananne crawling on her knees over broken glass begging the President for forgiveness? THAT I would tune into!

It will stay on with artifical life support for considerably longer,Yep. There are quite a few Barbra Streisands and George Soros' out there who will need to be painfully parted with a lot of their money before the plug gets pulled on it. But, it will ultimately go down the tubes.
To: thoughtomator
The thing is, the person she made that promise to- Bill O'Reilly- has now apologized to the public for supporting Bush in the war.

"Air America"? How about "Red America".
Libs always do that. They have to hide their agenda. They are always calling themselves names like "People for the American Way" when half their kind won't even buy a license plate with a flag on it because it disgusts them.
So they have to cover up, disguise themselves. Like Rush says, the reason Dean had to go was because he said unabashedly what libs stood for, and they just couldn't have that.
To: Qwinn
My bet? It's ratings will fall below subsistence levels within three weeks. It will stay on with artifical life support for considerably longer...Darn, I'll never get to hear it. I live in a smaller market, and it'll never survive long enough to get here.
Should've been good for a chuckle or two.

I've worked in radio syndication in Dallas for over 20 years, and I know the guy who was setting up the female-oriented talk station. That was Ira Lipson, a longtime major radio guy in these parts. It had a good line-up of talent and I think it had excellent chances of appealing to an underserved radio demographic, but the financing fell through the day before it was to launch. That was too bad; I've worked with some of the women who'd been signed, and they were really good radio talents.
This WLIB radio thing, however, is a bass-ackwards joke. It's not a real radio network, it's just a way to circumvent campaign finance laws by broadcasting a 24-hour paid infomercial in an election year.

Let 'em go at it. The thing is neither Franken or Garofolo were trained in radio. That doesn't mean that their show won't be successful, but if they plan on dethroning Limbaugh, they better think again. How they're going to get their potential lib listeners away from their bongs is another matter.
It is sort of a mystery why libs aren't successful in the talk radio genre other than my somewhat facetious suggestion that most of them are druggies. Could it be because libs identify more with visual images rather than the spoken word? Maybe most of them can't process verbal statements rationally. Who knows?

I have spent a working lifetime involved with the field of acoustics. A common riddle is often heard: "If a tree falls in the forrest, and no one is around to hear the fall, does it make any noise?"
I believe the subject of that riddle can now change to liberal talk radio.

This is great news indeed. Bush can now stop funding for NPR and use that money for VoA. With any luck, the Reds, errr libs can get a TV station also, so that Bush can pull funing from PBS.

They will have a built-in audience that is tailor-made for lefties - for years, when WLIB had talk shows, that was the place to go if you wanted to hear the crudest of anti-American and anti-Semitic outbursts imaginable. It was mostly a "no go" zone unless you were a leftie anarchist or you were the type who gets a kick out of hearing deranged people talking (or perhaps if you liked salsa music). That is mostly who will be tuning in. I doubt that they will wean NPR listeners away, other than just to check it out. Of course, the "people of color" who are accustomed to listening to WLIB are going to go ballistic to find out that there's suddenly a group of white liberal "usurpers" (to use a Sharpton phrase) who have moved into the 'hood...
