John Breaux of Louisana could be his choice. Unlike senator Edwards he is a popular senator, and is perceived by many as a moderate.

Then why did Bush choose Cheney and Gore choose Liberman in 2000? Both of them come from states that are steadfast Republican and Democrat, respectively
