They just said they do not have the capibility on the rovers to analize organics.....but did speculate that organic life COULD exist in the conditions found.
The absence of any Bio types (on the panel) sems to give the impression that they weren't looking for any bio's on this mission.
Now that they may have stumbled upon something interesting they can't investigate it properly to come on out and say "WE FOUND LIFE FORMS"

One of the panel members has an extensive history of papers discussing exobiology in detail, I forget which one.

Possbility that absence of bios on the panel was to keep the media from asking him/her direct questions? Is the media here (I'm cubicle bound, and jumping off and on as folks walk by).
