I agree, but if you banned gangs and enforced it a lot of crimes would reduce.

A gang is maybe 30-40 individuals. A community can number in the millions. I'd rather arm the community and let them take care of the "gangs".

If there are no 7.62x39 shells to be found, it wasn't used. Not entirely true. A SAR-2 type rifle has the same external cosmetic look as an AK (sans half-moon muzzle break), has an AK action, but shoots a 5.45mm round. They're most recognizable for the bright orange magazines.
Similarly, a SAR-3 type rifle has the same cosmetic look as an AK (sans half-moon muzzle break), has an AK action, but shoots a .223Rem round

Got it from my grandfather about 15 years ago. Still nice and strong... They do rot, but I'm sure it'll do. Salt might help preserve it? Posteriority ya know. :-)
