What's the difference between 15.75 and 16 yearss of age? So the age of consent should be 15.75 years then?
What happens in the next case when the girl is 15 years six months. She's only three months short of the new standard... What's the harm?
Do we keep on pushing the age lower and lower as we get new cases?

I'm finding nothing. News in ten minutes.

I saw the show, and believe she's lying to save herself from her father. Dixon is being railroaded with an outrageous mandatory minimum sentence. BTW, her parents did not appear on that show but Dixon's parents were there. If that was your daughter wouldn't you appear on the show?

It was not an attorney saying it, but the news anchor (a lady). It would sure be nice to hear the GIRL say it. I've been searching and found nothing online to that effect.

Thanks cyborg. It is an outrage.

the girl hasn't recanted her story and was on Oprah last week in an interview and sticks to her story.

the girl hasn't recanted her story and was on Oprah last week in an interview and sticks to her story. That doesn't agree with today's report. If ABC-News is saying she did recant when she didn't, her parents have a ready made lawsuit, right?

No, I am not the father of the 15-year-old girl and neither am I pitching a fit.
If this were a 40-year-old man then I'd say prison time was appropriate...but it's not. They're both in high school. Silly me.

I have WABC on. The story wasn't on the news at the top of the hour.
Some copy writer might be getting spanked right about now.

Why weren't her parents on Oprah? Oh I know that would mean explaining what his feelings are about 'colored boys' as the girl said herself.

It is called induction. As an empirisist, I use it all the time. It is how you find new generalizations. Deduction is how you prove, 'em.
And when you use the word "illogical" as an incantation rather than as a real word refering to a real idea, it does my argument no damage at all.

Ten years in prisonDuring my two month stay in jail, I heard it called 10-do-2 or 10-do-1. You get sentenced 10, you do 2 or 1 years or some other number.
Still sucks, but it's a little more doable.

I've searched it today and can find nothing in writing. As I said, I've seen some reporting after this became national, by people who didn't follow the initial case, and they tend to parrot the defense. Maybe some people feel comfortable assuming that an acquital means she lied. I'm not willing to make that leap absent a statement directly from her.
Caveat: if SHE says it then it changes everything. But to me her initial charge and her willingness to go to trial make this something other than an agreed consensual act that most of us agree should not and would not have been prosecuted.

He'll still be a felon, though, and he'll be on State Probation for another 8 years if he gets 10-do-2.
And in Georgia, the probationers try like heck to 'violate' ya.
Gosh, I sure have all that prison lingo down. =:^o

Why on earth are they under any obligation to go on Oprah?
They already went to COURT.
To: hellinahandcart
Why wouldn't they? That doesn't strike you as odd? If it was my daughter I sure would be on there.
