You are dreaming about 1994. My father was salivating about that before the election, and took off for Washington immediately afterwards. He and Leon Panetta then spent two weeks plotting on how the Clinton Admninistration could use it to bury the GOP in California. He told me what he was up to in loving detail at the time (I'm a Republican and he's a Democrat) and has gloated at me about it ever since.

Regardless of who was orchestrating the maneuvers, I concur with the result WOSG posted... That the party lacks confidence and has been "shamed into impotent silence".

Ideals, principles, and the platform have been thrown out the door and replaced by a "win at all cost" philosophy.
