(Yazoo City-AP) -- A surprise delay was ordered in today's (Monday) court hearing for Earnest Lee Hargon while investigators sped 100 miles southeast to the truck driver's home in pursuit of what investigators called "profound new developments" in the case.
The delay came only minutes before Hargon was to be informed of new felony charges he would face in the Valentine's Day disappearances of Michael and Rebecca Hargon and their 4-year-old son, James Patrick, all of the Vaughan community.
Investigators headed south to Smith County to return to the area of Earnest Hargon's Taylorsville-area home. An intense search of the home and 160 acres around it were carried out this past weekend by teams using horses, off-road vehicles, a helicopter and tracking dogs.
Authorities won't say what new information involved or its source, but they say it will not negatively impact the Yazoo County hearing. The delay came as friends and family of the missing couple and their son arrived at the courthouse.
Authorities say they still had no idea of the whereabouts of the three Hargons. They remain hopeful the family would be found safe.
