Very little politics, and NO ribbons. Nice change from past years. I think the Mystic River gang (Robbins and Penn) restrained themselves out of respect for Clint Eastwood. Funny bit in the opening, Michael Moore getting crushed by a truck. Ha ha.
The filmmaker accepting the award for best documentary ('The Fog of War') had a comment that went something like:
"40 years ago, this country went to war in Vietnam, and slipped down into a rabbit hole. I think that the current situation is much like that, where we've stepped into another rabbit hole. If this film has made people stop and think about things regarding this war, then we've done a damn bit of good."
