Let me relate a story that unraveled this weekend in a local church that involves sex.

We always watch the early morning service from this church as we eat breakfast and get ready for church. We have known the music director there for 10+ years as he was a member of our church for a long period of time, was involved in the local home school community and others.

Yesterday we noticed he was not leading the music as he usually did. We thought he must be out of town, sick or something. Last night we had a long visit with my SIL who is a member there and the best friend of the music director's wife.

As Paul Harvey would say, the rest of the story. He was having an affair with a member of the congregation. He has now lost everything he ever had. They had plotted on his withdrawing retirement funds, her kicking her husband out and then he would move in with her. Needless to say, the plot unraveled, the adulterer is our of his home, has lost his wife and family and job. The adulteress has lost her husband and family and has had to move in with a friend who would take her.

Our pastor preached on satan yesterday and how he will wind his way into our lives and that marriages are one of his favorite targets. He just succeeded in breaking up two families for a few short minutes of pleasure.

I'm sorry, I just had to reword your first sentence. I just struck me as funny the first time I read it.

The story you describe is a tragedy.

Very sad story. Such a shame. Such a waste and ruin to so many.

Satan rages in so many hearts these days. We must all rely on the strength and merits of Him who is mighty to save, and use that strength to resist and overcome temptation. Else we shall all fall to such ruin.

This is very common. Sad to say that many of these "Christian" couples actually tell their counselors that "God brought them together" or "It must be God's will"....

Pastors often fall for members of their church. Trouble is, that they are so busy taking care of other people, that they neglect their relationship with Jesus Christ, and their relationship with their wives...leaving them open to temptation.

I am so sorry that your church is going through this. It is very hard.

I grew up in a church where 3 generations of my family had attended, with another family who had been there just as long. My father and uncle and Grandfather all sat on the board, and were deacons and ushers...they all held high positions. My Uncle had a long time affair with the Choir director, a member of the other family of third generation members. This affair ruined so many lives, and ripped the church in two. It rocked the faith of many, who had been brought into the church by these "wonderful Christians".
