I'm sure he chose not to have to deal with the phonies who would be nice to his face and then tear him up behind his back. He's well aware of how two-faced Hollywood is and wants none of it. I'm glad he's not going too.

"Perhaps. Maybe he just didn't care to allow himself to be used." That is very perceptive. Gibson understands that Hollywood knows his appearance at the Oscars would boost their ratings. Maybe some other time. Just not this time.
