With the race shaping up to be much the same as 2000, would it be so far fetched to consider using a "big news event" like the one mentioned, for political benefit?

That there is a motivation to gain maximum political gain out of the capture of OBL is not far fetched. That Bush would seek to delay the capture campaign for maximum political impact is ridiculous. It would be stupid to do so, as keeping OBL on the loose would be too risky. If a still free OBL should take credit for a terrorist strike at the U.S., it would hardly benefit Bush.
