I once had a problem with French speaking people that involved the FBI....Yahoo....and an airport. I think I'm still under investigation.

Anger with Israel among France's large and growing Muslim population, combined with the strength of Right-wing parties in some French districts, have contributed to an atmosphere which has alarmed political and Jewish leaders. In Europe, the term "Right-Wing" has nothing to do with either conservatism or Christianity.

The French are disappointed because Jerry Lewis isn't playing the part of Christ.

Already posted but a great additional opportunity to bash the French.

If their culture is ALREADY widely anti-semitic how will censoring a movie claimed to support that viewpoint be safe?? I think we know why France doesn't want Jesus in their theaters and it has nothing to do with the anti-semitism excuse.

This would force the French to take a POSITION (SHUDDER!} on Christianity, and they are definitely a secular nation, not to be troubled by such concerns, which are much beneath them. Gentlemen, and especially French gentlemen, may not EVER show any religious sentiment. Besides, the Muslim citizens may not like it.

: "France, the older son of the Church, is the only country in Europe where still today the film hasn't found a distributor. At first I believed they wanted to see how the film would do at the box office. Now, with the success of the film in America, I don't really understand why they are not snapping up - unless it's self-censorship." Did they have to say that? How unkind to world-wide Catholics.

Serious question: is there anything to which the French won't surrender?
To: MegaSilver
The nation of France is today a post-Christian country. Maybe someday it will fall to the Muslims, as did Byzantium when it became soft and corrupt and no longer considered its faith worth sacrificing for.

Apparently not. But like everything else since they opposed the US over Iraq, I'm sure this move will bite them on the a$$ in the long run too.

I wonder if we are going to see the press up in arms about the movie "Alamo" which I think is coming out this summer. Obviously its portrayal of Latinos will be racially insensitive and likely lead to a new wave of resentment against undocumented workers from Mexico.
