February 28, 2004 -- Besieged shock jock Howard Stern taunted his government critics yesterday by skipping his usual congressional and FCC attacks and tearing right into the top guy - President Bush. Stern also said he fears his "suspension" last Wednesday by radio behemoth Clear Channel has turned into a firing.

"What in the blue hell is 'indecency'?"

As a baseline, Stern's show.

I'm no prude, but Stern's show is indistinguishable from the "entertainment value" of a clogged up toilet at a greasy roadside truck-stop.

"I'm amused at some of his work.

I would rather you not insult me....

I'm pretty sure no one else HAS to listen to him. You know what? Turn the station. There are tons of other things on the radio. "

Hey -- YOU are free to relish the viewing all the nose-stuffing of tampex suppositories and excrement body-washings you want...Enjoy.

However, if you can't take the heat of some of OUR opinions here, there are "tons of other things" on the internet.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

As you can assume, I think the "decency" laws should be thrown off the books. They're arbitrary and allow for capricious enforcement by the dictator of the moment.

It says that I'm amused by some of the things he says.

You're the one who told me I had insulted you. Please make up your mind.

Why don't Stern and "Bubba" simply go to NPR? We can have federally financed filth that way! Everyone there is a boring douche-bag anyway! LOL!

While GWB does try to use religion for political gain,

I challenge you to offer proof of this statement.

First .. Stern is not being censored by the government .. Clear Channel doesn't want to pay for the fines they know Howard will bring.

I think it's fairly obvious that Clear Channel is dumping them because of pressure from the FCC. Clear Channel was fined recently by them for "Bubba the Love Sponge". It's a CYA effort. If Clear Channel did this on their own free will completely, I wouldn't have said what I said since I'm a firm believer in "their stations, their rules". My beef is more with the FCC, which was created not to regulate content, but to make sure signals didn't interfere with one another.

However, Stern is a rude, crude and obnoxious pig and I cannot and will not defend him .. is it at all possible for Stern to do a show without describing on air in detail about all the sex acts happening in his studio???

I don't listen to Stern much so I don't know all that's there outside of what I've read about him, but I know how morning radio is in general, and some probably have the same arguements for "Drew and Mike" which I sometimes listen to.

If I don't like it, I don't listen to it. If it is so bad that I think it shouldn't be on(usually out and out liars or anti-freedom hit pieces tend to get me going that way), then I go for the advertisers and call the station.

But content regulation, especially with subjective matters such as 'indecency'(even what's obscentity is 'debateable', but it isn't QUITE as objective) is a disaster waiting to happen.

My eyes opened up here when AOL banned pro-gun websites calling them pornography. Their servers, their rules, but if a John Kerry(who is as anti-2nd Amendment as it gets) appoints Henry Waxman to the FCC? Fairness Doctrine? If the Internet gets regulated by them? Or Pay TV? Satellite?

It's that law of unintended consequences.

I don't necessarily disagree there. As a result, I simply use the radio dial or put in a Lynyrd Skynyrd CD.

My only major irk is with government bureaucrats.

You know what? I can take the heat from the opinions of others, but in this case you should just as well have said: "Hey, we don't like your opinion, imfleck. Leave."

I've been lurking/posting to FreeRepublic since 1997 and I've always enjoyed the humorous as well as the thought provoking posts. Unfortunately, over the past year or so it's become a place of intolerance. My opinion doesn't seem to matter one bit anymore if it's not like everyone else's. That's too bad.

Maybe he's a just a sincere believer who isn't ashamed of his faith. Did that ever cross your mind?

...and then he became number one in the market. It's entirely possible that the station wasn't all that great to begin with.

Fine .. then let Stern pay for his own fines

My beef is more with the FCC, which was created not to regulate content, but to make sure signals didn't interfere with one another.

That may have been how they started .. but these laws about content have been on the books for YEARS .. Stern knew and he choose to ignore it.

I have stated on another thread that I don't think he should be yanked off the air .. just tone it down. He is WAY over the edge and everyone knows it ... including Stern.

Again .. I totally understand your point about a Dem President and yes we need to be careful. And like I said, as much as I hate liberals, I'll defend their write to be on the air .. I just can't defend the disgusting stunts that Stern pulls

The station was fine .. as for Stern beating their rating? .. I have no issue with that

What I have an issue with are the stunts he pulls on the radio

You have to read imfleck's post carefully. Stern's #1 in the markets he enters. Then the ratings fall.

He's also only on in big cities. About 40 markets, as far as I can tell.
