If this Gnostic/Mystic criticism charge is about doubting whether a Catholic (ie. Gibson) could make a movie that a conservative Baptist could appreciate, think again.
There is no mysticism. There is no "veneration of Mary" or anything of that sort. It's only fault is its inability to do what is nearly impossible for any movie to convey -- the hypostatic union (divine and human nature of Christ).

the hypostatic union (divine and human nature of Christ). That would have been a good argument to make with this poster that questioned the fact that Jesus bore the full weight of the cross, even after a fatal flogging.
I felt that it was because of the power of God allowed him to bear it, and the weight represented the weight of all our sin.
Very visual it was.
