I agree. Yiddish is bastardized German, best left in the ashes of formerly Jewish Europe. Ladino is a far more interesting language-- not to mention practical, as Ladino speakers can communicate freely with the entire Spanish world.

That being said, a big part of me thinks that the Jews of Israel should chuck all languages of the exile, and embrace only Hebrew-- language of the redemption. Those of us in the US should limit ourselves to languages we need for our existence, rather than worshiping the dead Jewish world of Europe.

Then again, I'm Sephardi, so Yiddish has no appeal to me-- except for the mild revulsion I feel when I hear Yiddish triumphed as the supreme Jewish cultural stamp. Honey, it ain't my culture.

Then again, I'm also a Sabbath desecrator, so maybe I shouldn't talk at all.
