As well as the major basis of that culture's criticism of The Passion (and of all Christian teaching for that matter): They are offended by their own sin, and afraid of their own mortality.

They refuse to confront the question posed by the Crucifixion and the Resurrection: What if there is a God, and what if I have missed Him?
