WASHINGTON (AP) - Secretary of State Colin Powell on Thursday openly questioned whether President Jean-Bertrand Aristide can continue to serve effectively as Haiti's leader.

It was the closest Powell has come to suggesting that Aristide bow out as president before his elected term ends in February 20006.

Since the start of the Haitian crisis earlier this month, Powell has repeatedly called for a political solution. The plan submitted to the government and opposition leaders last week called for the installation of an independent prime minister who would lead a broad-based government.

a broad-based government? hmmm?

What's Madeline Halfwit up to these days? And Yes, I know I am using the term broad very loosely. ;-\

suggesting that Aristide bow out as president before his elected term ends in February 20006.

Wow, talk about an extended term of duty. That's some serious voodoo going on if he is going to serve to 20006.

Aristide made the "necklace" popular.

Dissenters would get a tire filled with gasoline put over their necks, set ablaze, terrible screaming.

Wouldn't mind seeing Aristide get his comeuppance this weekend.

Charlie Rangel was on Jim Lehrer's show Thursday evening and was clearly angry at Powell for backing away from support for Aristide. There was also a Republican Congressman from Florida on (Mark Foley, I think it was).

Rangel seemed to ignore the possibility that the changing situation in Haiti was forcing a change in US policy.

Good Ol' Charlie. Korean war vet, yaknow.

Haiti has been cursed for years as it has struggled thru something like 32 regime changes and recently, "free" elections, the last one or two, were supposedly on the up and up... but still suspect.

The abject poverty and violence that many endure today has gone on too long. Let pride take the fall for the sake of the people.

Remember who helped install Aristide in power...

It seems to me that necklacing could be terrorism. That might be a good reason for backing away from Aristide. Then again, maybe not. We spent good money and military force to install him as chief terrorist.

Colin Powell, Mr. Noriega, you, me, we all just look alike to Corrinne Brown. Just another bunch of racists who won't support her pet Communist Pig.

Good.

The left-press-pundit defense of murdering tyrants is long past tiresome.
