Ex-green beret to Kerry: 'You are a liar'
World Net Daily ^ | Feb 26, 2004 | By Ron Strom

A former Special Forces green beret who served in Vietnam has touched a nerve with fellow veterans after penning a scathing column hammering Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry.

"I've been deluged with e-mails," Don Bendell told WND. Most of the e-mails and phone calls he's received are from fellow Vietnam veterans, though he says some are from military personnel serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"Take a look at my website," Bendell said, "and the number of guest-book entries."

Bendell says the servicemembers in Iraq and Afghanistan who have contacted him have been "fervent" about their desire not to see Kerry as their commander in chief.

In his column, Bendell accuses Kerry of "rewriting history" through his 1971 testimony to Congress. In that speech, which has been referenced by many opponents of Kerry, he said of fellow soldiers in Vietnam: "They personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks, and generally ravaged the countryside of South Vietnam."

Writes Bendell:

I was a green beret officer who volunteered for duty in Vietnam and fought in the thick of it in 1968 and 1969 on a Special Forces A-team on the Ho Chi Minh Trail, just for starters. We were the elite. We saw the most action. Everybody in the world knows that. But we did not just kill people; we built a church, a school, treated illnesses, passed out soap, food and clothing, and had fun and loving interaction with the indigenous people of Vietnam, just like our boys did in Normandy, Baghdad, Saigon and everywhere American soldiers ever served. We all gave away our candy bars and rations to kids, our hearts to oppressed people all over the globe. My children and grandchildren could read your words and think those horrendous things about me, Mr. Kerry. You are a bald-faced, unprincipled liar and a disgrace, and you have dishonored me and all my fellow Vietnam veterans. Sure, there were a couple bad-apples, but I saw none, and I saw it all, and if I did, as an army officer, it was my obligation to stop it, or at the very least report it. Why is there not a single record anywhere of you ever reporting any incidents like this or having the perpetrators arrested? The answer is simple. You are a liar. Your medals and mine are not a free pass for lifetime, Sen. Kerry, to bypass character, integrity and morality. I earn my green beret over and over daily in all aspects of my life.

Since it was first posted on Feb. 11, Bendell's column has been passed all over the world via e-mail and has been posted on several different websites.

Besides criticizing Kerry's testimony before Congress, Bendell slams him for opposing a bill that would have helped the Montagnard people of Vietnam:

John Kerry, you personally derailed the Vietnam Human Rights Bill, H.R.2883, in 2001, after it had passed the House by a 411 to 1 vote, and thousands of pro-American Montagnard tribespeople in Vietnam died since then who could have been saved, by you. Earlier, as chair of the Senate Select Committee on MIA/POW Affairs, you personally quashed the efforts of any and all veterans to report sightings of living POWs, when you held those reins in Congress. You have fought tooth and nail to push for the U.S. to normalize relations with Vietnam for years. Why, Mr. Kerry? Simple, your first cousin C. Stewart Forbes, CEO of Colliers International, recently signed a contract with Hanoi, worth BILLIONS of dollars for Collier's International to become the exclusive real estate representative for the country of Vietnam. Bendell says he has an expose coming out in the April issue of American Spectator that further details his charges against the senator.

In talking with WND, the veteran also criticized Kerry for marrying two women who happened to be multibillionaires: "I'm sure that it was true love," he said.

Emphasizing the fact his opinions do not represent any organization, Bendell mentioned he has been involved in non-political veteran groups, including a stint as president of the Rocky Mountain chapter of the Special Forces Association.

He says he tells Democrats to vote for John Edwards in the primaries: "Just don't vote for Kerry."

Bendell, who has spoken on many radio shows since his column gained popularity, is the author of several books and owns karate studios in Colorado.

The parting shot from Bendell in his column: "Medals do not make a man. Morals do."

Well it's been over 30 years in the making and I can't understand how the good people of Massachusetts could have ever elected Kerry as senator from their state

Mass has no trouble reelecting a killer as Senator over and over. Why should they object to a traitor?

We all gave away our candy bars and rations to kids,

Isn't giving those rations to civilians a war crime?

Throughout his entire life -- what we have is Slick Willy redux -- deja vu (characterwise) all over again. And, further left than Der Sleichmeister.

The way I understand it, he recommended himself for and wrote the narrative for each of his "awards."

There have to be surviving crewmen who have first-hand information re: Hanoi John Effing Kerry's bogus "bandaid" purple hearts and Bronze and Silver Stars.

And, he ran out on them to boot!

First rule of leadership -- take care of the troops! When the troops are taken care of, then the "0" (if he is worth a sh!t) can take care of his own needs.

The troops he left behind when he claimed the "three purple heart" rule (bogus rule?) and shagged a$$ out of the combat zone have got to be pi$$ed, still!

Kerry says all this stuff happened, yet he didn't REPORT IT?? He should be STRIPPED of ANY medals he may have gotten.

Speaking of medals, is there a report as to what his injuries were and HOW he got them?

Kerry's bio is floating around FR somewhere and if you do a little searching I think you can find it. 3 Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star and a Silver Star in 4 months? Yea...right...the officers must have been writing those commendations for each other in the Officers Club. Ooops, a paper cut! Where are those forms for the Purple Heart commendations? ROFLMAO

Can't speak for S.V. policy - but my Dad was a Colonel in the southern part. He normally worked 6 1/2 days a week, then spent Sunday afternoons helping at a nearby orphanage.

After his death in a helicopter in Apr 72, his brothers raised money and the oldest traveled to Vietnam to give it to the orphanage.

After the fall, my uncles tried to contact the orphanage. They never heard from anyone at the orphanage again.

The cause was just. The government of SV may not have been good, but it was good enoough to allow the orphans to be cared for, and to allow Americans to help.

My Dad's third war was his last - but I'm confident he never raped, tortured, or abused folks for fun or for policy, as JFKerry so slanderously charges!

Your relatives plainly did the best anybody could with the situation they ran up against.

The cause was just. The government of SV may not have been good, but it was good enoough to allow the orphans to be cared for, and to allow Americans to help.

For the sort of effort that got put into Nam, that in my view is not good enough. It's certainly not good enough to draft anybody into.

In Nixon's place in Feb of 69, I'd have called the joint chiefs into a room and laid out some sort of a law, like what if anything do you guys figure you can accomplish in Nam in a year starting from now, without using draftees in combat roles, without using vast sums of money, and basically just using the kinds of assets you use to play such games with, professional soldiers, soldiers of fortune, air power, our battleships, and special ops. I'd have had no qualms about any sort of an assault on North Vietnam under those rules. If they'd told me they couldn't accomplish anything in Nam in a year with those constraints, I'd have ended the whole thing immediately.

I've seen it on other threads that Kerry's been looking grey and palid lately (as opposed to his prior cheeriness?). He also took some time off for "a medical condition". Some have speculated chemo. So, he's going to wipe out Edwards on Tuesday. He's going to get everything wrapped up by the end of next month. Then, he's going to, once he gets to the convention come out and tell everyone thank you for the support, but he's had a relapse of cancer and please support Hillary! as the new candidate. She'll pick Edwards as her VP candidate. Edwards and Cheney will be tight debate. Hillary! will dodge any debate with George W. and get away with all kinds of slander. Have to go on a show? No. Why? Let her synchophants go.
