FYI NC-05: Twisted tale of ‘Pastor Randy’
The Hill ^ | 2/25/04 | By Sam Dealey

SECTION: US HOUSE

LENGTH: 297 words

HEADLINE: NC5: GOP Primary Getting Nasty

BODY:

The Hill (2/25, Dealey) reports, "Vernon Robinson and Nathan Tabor both hope to win the Republican nod to replace retiring Rep. Richard Burr (R-NC).

Both are anti-tax, pro-family and all for guns. And both claim to represent the vision and mores of the district's staunchly conservative Christian-right constituency." But in "the absence of substantive policy differences between them, their campaigns have turned to throwing sharp elbows, thereby making their rivalry within the GOP primary among the nastiest in the country." An e-mail "sent out last week to hundreds of potential voters and reporters from the Yahoo account of 'Pastor Randy," though "purportedly in support of Tabor," was "a thinly disguised smear campaign." Interspersed "with biblical citations and exhortations of prayer, the e-mail listed a litany of misleading and damaging personal attacks against Tabor, 30, who is making his first political race." Pastor Randy wrote, "Nathan will be facing multiple charges in Wilkes County Criminal District Court today stemming from an incident...several weeks ago. ... It is my understanding that Nathan is in fact guilty of one or more of the charges pending against him in the criminal court." The Hill adds the "truth, it turns out, is far less titillating. Tabor was stopped some months ago by a state trooper and charged with speeding and possessing an expired driver's license -- charges to which Tabor readily confessed." In addition, the Tabor campaign "said it traced the message to a computer IP address in the Washington area -- and that Cox Communications, an Internet service provider, confirmed the computer's signature as registered to longtime Robinson associates Jack and Kay Daly. Kay Daly is a media consultant and top employee of Robinson's campaign."

Let's see how long it take's Vernon's boys to remove this posting. You see only pro-Vernon Robinson postings are allowed. You can slander Helvey, Broyhill, Tabor, or Foxx with impunity, but not Vernon Robinson

I have no idea what this is all about but I've received no so thinly veiled threats of legal action against FR from several persons presumably on both sides of this issue. I will guarantee all that I know nothing about this dispute and am not involved. I have no knowledge of either of these candidates or of the circumstances of any fights between them. I'd just as soon none of this is posted to FR. It appears someone is spamming the forum with this crap.

In addition, the Tabor campaign "said it traced the message to a computer IP address in the Washington area -- and that Cox Communications, an Internet service provider, confirmed the computer's signature...

As anyone knows, Internet Providers like Cox do not reveal this kind of information except through a court order. It appears someone in the Tabor campaign is lying...again.

Evidentally, you can and do.

It appears someone is spamming the forum with this crap.

I knew it! JimRob leads a secret double life as . . . Obvious Man! ;)

I would suggest the campaigns mud-wrestle to settle the disagreement but I'm afraid they'd actually do it.
