It will become: all guns must have locks on them, at all times.

It's not that the guns have to be sold with a lock...

It's that the guns MUST, by force of Federal Law, be locked when stored in a home.

If you don't, you pay $2,500 fine and loose your right to keep and bare arms.

You are also now totally liable for any incident that is commited with your gun, if you fail to lock it, such as a theif who stole your gun and shoots someone. If it can be proven that your gun was not stored properly, you are fined $2,500, you loose your 2nd Ammendment rights and you are liable for the injury, damage or death caused by the 3rd party's criminal act.

"If this stuff passes, I'll only vote 3rd party for life."

Don't know if I would go that far, there are some GOP that are doing the right thing. They at the very least deserve our backing, but I will not vote for those who back this crap.

So basically it's now a total gun ban. And this started out as a pro-gun bill?

This is a poison pill.

The bill must pass without ammendments.

The liability lawsuits will drive up the price of guns until they are not affordable for everyday folk.

This is their goal.

All that will be left to purchase will be $20,000 Italian shot guns.

I believe all handguns come with the locks now anyway..But we DON'T need a law saying so!!!!!

I agree that such a law isn't required. But, if the law parrots what is common practice anyway, and the practice is only the selling of a lock with the gun, then I don't give a hoot if it's part of this bill.

OTOH, if some of the more extreme interpretations asserted on this thread are true (guns have to have integral locks, guns must be locked up until the moment of use, etc.), then the amneded law is a sell-out, if passed.

From what I heard during the debates, yes.

If this passes, here's the reality on the ground.

A few years will pass, then you will have the Feds use this law on politically incorrect people they need to trump up charges against (like people with 15 & 31/32" shot guns).

Next, you will have news saturation coverage of people who didn't lock their guns via Federal law and who's guns were used in accidents / murders. The people will be tried on CNN / CBS / NBC / ABC / et al. Its for the children, after all.

Next, you will see state wide volunteer gun turn-ins for people who don't understand the law and don't want to be found liable for not locking properly.

Eventually, you will have fewer gun owners with some people owning a whole bunch of locked guns.

It just past, by the way.
