I fired off a letter to CNSNews at the link provided.

Here's the text:

"Concerning the article Jesus Was Black, Not White, Group Says, by Melanie Hunter, dated 02/24/04...

"I believe Ms. Hunter may have been a touch negligent in her research. This group claims that Revelations 13:20 claims that Jesus was black. There IS no Revelations 13:20. Chapter 13 of Revelations ends with Verse 18. I have asked around and no one can find any version of a Bible that has a Revelations Chapter 13 with more than 18 verses.

"I'm not even a practicing Christian, I'm agnostic. For all I know or care, maybe Jesus -was- black, but don't you think it would be rather incumbent upon a reporter to fact-check something that would be so unbelievably easy to check?

"Ms. Hunter has given the legitimacy of press coverage to this group who are making completely unfounded claims on not just misinterpreted but actively non-existent Bible verses.

I don't want the story pulled. I want a follow-up story where Ms. Hunter goes back to the group and asks them precisely -why- they misled her by citing a fictional Bible verse, and displays as much outrage at the deception as this group claims against Mel Gibson. I would like to hear not just about "purposefully ommitted facts", but purposefully fabricated facts. I would think she'd be pretty angry about it... assuming she didn't know at the time the story was published........ and wasn't in on it........ which is quite an assumption to make actually........"
