I agree. It just surprised me. I've seen a couple of elderly non-citizens that served during the wars that didn't draw attention until they applied for SS. Both were made citizens which I thought was right.

My father-in-law came from Poland in the WWII era. He and his brother enlisted in the US Army Air Corp and served full terms. He was a B-29 mechanic/(cowling puller) his brother was a nosegunner on a B-25 even though he was 6foot3. How he ever curled up in that turret is beyond me.

They both got citizenship at discharge and were proud Americans all their lives. My father-in-law was given a military funeral which was extremely appreciated by family.
