"In other words it is pressurized hot "hard water" similar to that which builds up mineral deposits in hot water heaters."

These are so much more beautiful than anything that has ever come out of my hot water heater... ;-)

What is the difference between a vug and a geode?

Thanks!

I don't know, but I have one.

I chunked a large round stone at a squirrel one day and it split in two. revealed a crystalline interior. I am looking at it now.

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. Been doing our taxes.

A vug is any cavity within a rock that is lined with crystal that are of a different mineral composition than the surrounding rock. A geode is different in that it is separable from the surrounding rock (generally limestone or volcanic rocks), and composed of an outer layer of chalcedony and partially filled on the inside by quartz, calcite, barite, or a similar type of inward-projecting crystal.
