Looks like those "nodules" are set pretty well in the matrix, to be ground like that.
I'll bet those scientists are wishing they had some way to wash that surface, I'll bet it would look a lot different wet!

On NASA/JPL'S microscopic page of sol-30 this image preceeds the grind images. If this is the site of the grind then it is an area that they have not previously shown to us. I was expecting them to grind on "El Capitan".
I think that they've deceived us. I think that this is actually a picture of the top of Betty Crocker's devil's food cake!
