When it comes to report time, help your daughter research the false claims presented in BFC (I believe there is an excellent, reliable website out there doing just this - help me freepers) and refute point-by-point the movie. It could almost be as easy as shooting ducks in a barrel.

This is a great opportunity to show these students the power of propaganda. Search out the sites that show the deceptive use of editing that Moore used (the Hardy Law site referenced in #31 is a good start), then ask the instructor to allow you to go through the "documentary" with the kids and show how Moore has manipulated them. If the instructor won't let you, see if she will allow your daughter to do it.

Of course, if she won't (and who are we kidding here ... she won't), your daughter should ask why she if afraid of an opposing viewpoint?

Another lesson!

I watched the movie. I wanted to see just how bad it was.
Believe me, it is BAD! Michael Moore is a human turd!

The movie ending with Michael Moore interviewing Charlton Heston. Why Heston agreed I'll never understand. The interview started nicely but by the end Moore was pushing a dead Columbine kids picture in his face and asking if he felt any responsibility or some b.s.. The movie ended with Moore leaving the kid's photograph in front of Heston's home.

If a teacher is presenting material you find offensive and nonacademic, you can demand that the principal find another class or activity for your child to participate in. The principal will kick up a fuss, and tell you your child will be harmed because his/her peers saw the thing and they will tease your child.

Don't worry about it. By law, at least in California, the principal must let you make the decision and find another activity for your child. Don't worry about your child either, because in reality, the other kids will be jealous because your child will get to do something "interesting" while they are stuck in class watching a stupid movie.

Let other parents know so that they can opt out their children.

Demand a curriculum review with the teacher, and find out what else is planned for the school year. This movie probably isn't the worst this instructor is going to do, although its bad enough.Bump your concerns up to the head teacher and the principal. Don't let them tell you "you're the only one to complain". In almost every instance that is an outright lie, but they don't want you to know other parents are unhappy because you might get together enough people to actually change the curriculum for the better.

Well, here is kind of an update to this thread. First I did call the principal, and he expressed concern, yet he is the one that approved the showing of that blasted pack of lies. I did call the WV chapter of the NRA, and had been awaiting material from them....I finally got it and I was gravely disappointed! They sent me material for the ages of 2nd and 3rd graders!!!!!! Boy the teacher and a room full of 17 and 18 year olds would have loved me bringing that material in to have shown as counter to "Bowling for Columbine"! Oh, well.

However an edited version of my letter was posted in the Beckley Register Hearld on our around March 4th or 5th. Today, there is a retort to my letter, which I will post below. I will also provide contact info on how to contact the editor as I will find it almost impossible to find the individual's email address that wrote this wonderful piece of literature! (LOL)

First, how to contact this paper if any of you desire, and perhaps a few of you will after ready this Letter to the editor! lol http://register-herald.com/letters/

'Bowling for Columbine' highly educational

In response to Sheila Davis' recent letter .. it was obvious that Davis has never seen the documentary by Michael Moore, "Bowling for Columbine."

This highly educational film brings to light many issues, but the one that seems to stick out the most was guns do kill people ... and our system is set up to make you think guns are good.

If you would have watched this wonderful film, you would have been shocked to find out that people in Canada live with their doors unlocked and there are very few murders with guns. In fact, it shows one of our large cities that is directly across from one of the Canadian cities. The crime rate is almost zero in Canada; the U.S. city has a very high rate of crime.

Davis claims she will not pay the salary of educators through her taxes ... You cannot control where your tax dollars goes. Do you think they will take your tax dollars out of that school system?

My hat is off to the teacher who allowed the students to see the real life with the use of this wonderful film. This film is one of the most requested at video rental stores.
