Kerry was granted an early service exit based on his request in which he affirmed that he was running for political office. He exited the Navy and proceeded to join Hanoi Jane and NOT run for political office.

Contrast: President Bush was granted an early service exit based on his request in which he affirmed he was attending Harvard B-School. He attended Harvard B-School. Man of his word!
