"I was thinking about you analysis and how you decided to go or not to go. I wanted to add another thought to put into your decision making. It is true that the torture and death are not the whole story. But neither was his sinless life and ministry. "

Thanks. I'm very, very familiar with the story and what it means to Christians. I'm not a Christian, so it hasn't the same meaning for me. It is similar to numerous similar myths in several cultures, and I have a great interest in such mythology.

However, in deciding which movies I attend, a lot of factors come into play. While I have no doubt that this film graphically depicts one aspect of Jesus, it only depicts one aspect of the myth, and that's enough for me to skip the film.

I hope it proves valuable to others, but I'll not be there.

Thanks for the reply. While I object to your use of the word myth (I find it offensive) I don't believe that you meant it that I way. I am sure that you are just saying the truth as you see it. The only other thing I can recommend is CS Lewis Book on "Mere Christianity". It starts with the perspective that Christianity is myth like others and then evaluates it. Very interesting read.

Ah, yes; like the myth of the noble pagan, who considers himself outside and above the culture above which he's a member, looking down on others from the lofty height of a pretense to hyper-rationality....

Hey! You don't exist!

Since most people on this thread are too kind, I will say it. I wish you weren't here. Basically, you're the turd in the punch bowl, uninvited on this thread. Who cares what a so-called "Godless Athiest" thinks about the The Passion of Christ. I don't and I doubt many others do either.

This movie has touched people of faith in a profound way, please let them bask in its glory. There are too few movies from Hollywood that don't degenerate Christianity, let them enjoy this one.

As a personal side note, I am also fearful of seeing this movie. That says a lot about the power of it.

I would have to take issue with your characterization of the life and work of Christ being the same as other "Myths." I know of no mythological figure who caused those around them to sacrifice everything to spread their message and change the world. History records that eleven of the twelve apostles willing died martyrs deaths because of the impact the living Christ had on their lives. Mythological figures do not normally have this affect on human beings. This is one of many arguments which made me re-evaluate my religious beliefs, along with the writings of theologian Rave Zacharias.
