If it were me, I'd drop Comcast and get a dish -- and I'd let Comcast know exactly why they lost me as a customer.

The zot newbies crap is getting old.
I guess we need to imitate the intolerance of DU and the way they ban anyone who doesn't 'yelp' like Former CandyDate Howie the 'screamer' Dean?

USED to be, people were banned, and posts were pulled around herte for being in violation of posting guidelines. RECENTLY, there seems to be a lot of subjective banning and pulled posts, for posting anything that calls into question, the 'straight' and 'true' path of our own brand of political correctness.

It makes for a lot of 'mee too' and 'praise the Lord' comments that flow from the 'atta boy' forms of conservatism, but lacks the 'investigate, confront and discuss the facts' flavor of the old 1998 circa freerepublic.

WHY pull all the posts we don't like?
Is it because "their" ideas are so powerful we cannot laugh at them, ignore them or simply confront them head on, in a NON flame-baiting style? Doubtful.

Getting folks banned, and their posts pulled is apparently become the new bloodsport around here. It makes it hard to get a straight take on news events or devolute spin machine commentaries of the press from our own spin.

It was good of you to say something positive about it.

I agree, if newbie's are zotted just for being newbie's the rest of us newbie's might be afraid to say anything.

If somebody post-and-runs with unverifiable information the very first day on the site, I say ZOT! 'em, and leave the stain on the ground as a warning to others.

If AppyPappy says something, he's earned my respect over the years. If Discostu says something,... well, at least I know where he's coming from. If Stonenots says something, I have no way of knowing if it is true, or if he's just trying to wind us up over nothing.

He hasn't been quite deafening us with his replies to this thread...

Knee jerk Zotters or those calling anyone a troll with whom they do not agree are our "Special Olympic" freepers.

All I can say is keep checking on the DSL and if it ever becomes available, drop Comcast ASAP.

Not unless I can get DSL at the speed of 1 Mbps (and Comcast will soon be upgrading it to 3 Mbps). I don't think residential DSL can approach the speeds I am getting now. The last time I checked, if I were able to get DSL, the max speed Verizon was offering for residential was 384 Kbps.

Plus, I don't think it is a distance issue for me. It's because of the way the phone lines are run to my house. The lines go through a "pair gain" that lets the phone company multiplex the lines, if I understand correctly. This prevents DSL from working, just like it prevents me from getting a ~56K modem connection.

But I'm not sure I'd switch anyway. I'm paying $49.95/month for 1 megabit (and it's supposed to get upgraded to 3 megabits soon).

If somebody wants to post the Bush/AWOL story or some other scurrilous piece of flotsam, I have no objection. I don't think that person should necessarily be ZOT!ed. After all, our object is to win debates, not always to agree with one another.

OTOH, this sort of post just decreases the signal-to-noise ratio. It might be interesting to discuss Comcast dropping FoxNEWS, but there is nothing, absolutely nothing, that indicates that this is actually happening. All we have is the say-so of some newbie palindromic poster who didn't stick around. What, he can figure out how to post, but he can't figure out how to reply?

So we're all chasing our tails over something that is probably not even true. That is worthy of a ZOT!, IMHO. If somebody could post a working link demonstrating that Comcast is actually dropping FoxNEWS, I would change my mind.

I've had FOX News access for years-- and it's never been basic service.

Well, we're up to 110 posts, and nobody has yet proven the supposition that Comcast is actually dropping FoxNEWS.

You betcha...I was a happy camper the day I took my wire cutters out and snipped the Comcast cable. Direc-tv is much better quality.

WHY pull all the posts we don't like?

It's not a matter of liking or disliking. I very seldom watch FOX and couldn't care less. The new FReeper who posted this thread without a link has not been back since. The thing that is really puzzling is why the Admin Moderator is leaving it up?

Comcast sucks all around. DirecTV rules all around. and, which no one has mentioned in 100+ posts, it's owned by Rupert Murdoch so you can be damn sure FNC ain't going anywhere. (though, CNN is channel 202 and FNC is 360, which is a bit odd... when you realize 202 is pretty much the first "real" non local channel, just below the ESPN family).

But, to the others' point, so far, I'm inclined to believe this post is pure bs.

because it's not a violation of tos?
you are not required to monitor all articles you have ever posted. some people actually post and go to work.

a new freeper might just not know HOW to post an article correctly. not sufficient for banning. just like failure to capitalize or punctuate.

bad form yes.
bad enough to delete.. no way.

Bull! If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck . . .

Besides, I've seen the mods pull many-a-thread for not having a source.

Jonathan Hurd, vice president of the Boston consulting firm Adventis, said Comcast's Disney bid may also be a defensive tactic as Murdoch's News Corp., which owns the Fox TV and movie units, takes a controlling interest in DirecTV.

"Owning Disney is potentially a bargaining chip for them if Murdoch tried to hold content hostage" and restrict Comcast's access to Fox programming, Hurd said.

THERE does seem to be an ongoing battle between comcast and murdoch who owns fox, over his content. murdoch took over direct tv a satellite competitor of comcast. It would not surprise me in the least if comcast cut the broadcast news organ of a primary competitor.

To continue to offer fox, now that rupert has direct, owuld be like taco bell offering mcdonalds hamburgers for sale, and in that light, this post actually may be going somewhere in the 'real world.'

Kindly speak for yourself, thank you very much.

If I see a wrong, I'm callin' it. This thread has been up for four hours or so and no one, NO ONE, has come up with a source. Stonenot is probably laughing at you.
