(Wisconsin Attorney General) Lautenschlager arrested for DUI
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel ^ | Feb. 24, 2004 | STEVEN WALTERS

Posted on 02/24/2004 10:12:54 AM PST by mafree

Madison - State Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager said today that she was arrested for drunken driving in Dodge County while returning to her Fond du Lac home from the Capitol on Monday.

Lautenschlager, 48, said in a statement that she had made a "terrible mistake" and added: "While driving home, I fell asleep and drove off the road, and was subsequently cited for operating a vehicle while intoxicated."

In her statement, she promised to "accept the consequences of and will take responsibility for my actions."

According to the Dodge County sheriff's report on the arrest, Lautenschlager refused to take a test to determine her blood-alcohol level.

She was driving a state-owned car when she was arrested.

Lautenschlager, whose office works closely with local and state police agencies and operates state crime labs, thanked Dodge County officers in her statement "for their professionalism in handling this matter."

She has been released from custody.

A Democrat, she is a former state legislator and U.S. attorney appointed by former President Clinton. She was elected the state's first female attorney general in 2002.

An aide said Lautenschlager was not available for comment today.

Lautenschlager commutes to the Capitol from her Fond du Lac home and usually drives alone to state appearances. As a former federal prosecutor, whose spouse is a retired law enforcement officer, Lautenschlager has received considerable political backing from law officers.

More details of her arrest were not immediately available.

Complete coverage of this story will appear online later today and in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in the morning.

I think the Dims have learned something from Clinton after all.....Admit it and take the consequences.

I bet she gets off light.

She's been in office just over a year. I assume she was OK with the 0.8 limit. Callers into a local talk radio show are calling for her to resign and get the same punishment anyone else would.

Peg did some legal work for me back when she practiced out of a basement office in Oshkosh, Wi.

She had a nice guy for husband (back then) who had a great job and they a new baby boy...a real cutie...

I found her to be an affable woman..with a good sense of humor....

She was also a fairly typical- liberal -woman back in those days....imo she was 'put up' by the feminist machine...and kinda just went with the easiest flow..and more carried along by current rather than driven by any real personal ambition...

Unfortunately the seeds of her earlier indoctrination seem to have grown today's bitter socialist fruit...imo

I hope she recovers and gets sober...I also hope she gets a new job...and takes those two commies above her with her when she leaves..

Is there a Controlling Legal Authority in Wisconsin or is she it?

Unfortunately, she's it. The current Dim governor was the last AG here in Cheesheadland.

Gee, I would have never guessed that in a million years.

She supposedly registered at 1.2 but claims she only had a couple glasses of wine.

Peggy's upscale. The usual excuse for a Cheesehead is "but ossifer, I only had a coupla beerzsh" while falling over during the field sobriety tests.

BTW, the refusal is an additional charge on a DUI. Peggy's got her tush in a sling.

There's talk about recalling the governor but little real action.

I've met her and she's not skinny- about size 10-12. She knocked back more than a couple of glasses of wine.

She won't resign. Only people with real shame resign. She would require handcuffs and a jail sentence first. What are her stances on 1st offender DUI? Mandatory sentences etc.??

You stated:"She supposedly registered at 1.2 but claims she only had a couple glasses of wine."

How could she register a 1.2 when she refused to take the test?

If she refused to take the test how can they determine the blood alcohol?

By the way hi, and good to hear from you.

We had the same situation in California with Davis as lunatic left wing governor and Bill Lockliar as the trial lawyey phoney Attorney General.

We recalled Davis. We may do the same with Lockliar if he continues to be PC with the gay marriages in Gay Frisco.

It is time to demand that these rats behave like they expect Republicans to behave.

She probably refused a blood test because other things might have shown up. Things that aren't that legal even in Wisconsin.

Keep us posted as to what happens here.

Shall I guess what party she belongs too.

She will get off light if the good people in Wisconsin roll over and allow it to happen.

Besides being drunk, she was driving a state owned car. That is unacceptable.

Paragraph 7, I'm impressed. They must not use the AP style manual.

She did some test later, according to the radio news source who broke the story.

The Dean campaign said Lautenschlager was the first state attorney general to endorse Dean; she will chair his campaign in the state.

LOL! Now we know why she was drinking...
