Madison - State Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager said today that she was arrested for drunken driving in Dodge County while returning to her Fond du Lac home from the Capitol on Monday.
Lautenschlager, 48, said in a statement that she had made a "terrible mistake" and added: "While driving home, I fell asleep and drove off the road, and was subsequently cited for operating a vehicle while intoxicated."
In her statement, she promised to "accept the consequences of and will take responsibility for my actions."
According to the Dodge County sheriff's report on the arrest, Lautenschlager refused to take a test to determine her blood-alcohol level.
She was driving a state-owned car when she was arrested.
Lautenschlager, whose office works closely with local and state police agencies and operates state crime labs, thanked Dodge County officers in her statement "for their professionalism in handling this matter."
She has been released from custody.
A Democrat, she is a former state legislator and U.S. attorney appointed by former President Clinton. She was elected the state's first female attorney general in 2002.
An aide said Lautenschlager was not available for comment today.
Lautenschlager commutes to the Capitol from her Fond du Lac home and usually drives alone to state appearances. As a former federal prosecutor, whose spouse is a retired law enforcement officer, Lautenschlager has received considerable political backing from law officers.
More details of her arrest were not immediately available.
Complete coverage of this story will appear online later today and in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in the morning.
I think the Dims have learned something from Clinton after all.....Admit it and take the consequences.
I bet she gets off light.
When Democrats say they will take responsibility, it never seems to result in their resignation from office. Let's compare her, Chvala, Clinton etal to Livingston, Gingrich and Packwood.
Republican AG Joe Blow Smith caught driving drunk
You see, some people might not know what DUI or (R) is (and it would be bigger, but that's the largest font available in HTML).
Notice that the article doesn't say anything about the police obtaining a warrant and drawing blood without her consent. She failed a *roadside* breathalyzer test, but that isn't admissible in court. The police can obtain a warrant and draw blood without consent given PC, which might include a failed roadside breathalyzer test. Again, though, no mention of that in this article.
Standard procedure for the WSP, do you think? Or perhaps if an ordinary serf had the wherewithal to refuse a blood/urine/breath test the police might have been more diligent in gathering evidence? And what do you think this Democrat AG would have had her attack dogs say to the judge in court about a citizen who acted as she has?
Yeap, I noticed it after I posted. That is what I get for reading it right after teaching 30 twelve year olds.
You've got that right....
First off, out of the (approximately) 255 words this article uses, it took 154 words before the writer revealed the political party this gal's affilitated with.
Since it's well known most people never read beyond the first paragraph of any article it begs the question, is it an accident the word "Democrat" appears 60% into the artcle?
You make that call for yourself Braveman, I've spent too many years studying the mo of the urinalist-creeps, so I know the answer.
"...she is a former state legislator and U.S. attorney appointed by former President Clinton. She was elected the state's first female attorney general in 2002."
HA!!
One of those *gifted* ones selected to fill a vacancy when Clintigula fired every single U.S.Attorney, eh?
So, what were the planks this gal ran on in '02 that landed her in Madtown, anyway?
"Law & Order"? :o)
"An aide said Lautenschlager was not available for comment today."
~& of course the disgusting Liberal-Socialst quisling from the Milwaukee Urinal-Sentenal said, "Oh. Well OK."
Let's have some fun & rewrite that first paragraph & pretend the broad were a Repub, shall we?
"Madison - State Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager, a Republican who enjoyed support from Wisconsin's law enforcement community during the election due to her husband's standing as a retired high ranking law enforcement official, said today that she was arrested for drunken driving in Dodge County while returning to her Fond du Lac home from the Capitol on Monday. Lautenschlager ran on a strict platform of toughening Wisconsin's existing drunk driving laws."
See?
The LIberal-Socialist smear machine game's easy!
...in fact, it's *child's* play. ;^)
Yes, most of them are. She's a ditzy leftist, so I don't really know.
I do know it's illegal to handle firearms while intoxicated. Most other folks would have had their vehicles searched.
Guilty of a Class A misdemeanor if...941.20(1)(b) Operates or goes armed with a firearm while he or she is under the influence of an intoxicant.
She is a Democrat. By definition, she is a liar.
