"There is also the possibility that fumes/gasses from the volcano's are collecting in the low areas and gassing them."

That's what I've been wondering, Granny. Could there be a parasitic vent or fissure? Also Wy has many sub-bituminous and lignite coal beds...if they are burning (and those fumes have got to be deadly) couldn't an area leaking such gases kill off wildlife? But then I would expect lots and lots of dead birds and smaller critters.

Yes, other dead animals would be expected.

Unless there is a cave or something that only the Elk use.

Years ago, there was a book from England that the Library had on Goats, seems there are herds that have gone wild and it told of a study on them.

It talked of the caves that they had gone to for years, 6 foot of manure built up in them and that there would be a lead Nanny Goat.

It talked about the diet and how they followed the same path
every day, eating a bite of this for a laxative, a bit more of that for the vitamins and something else for bulk.

Seems that if the young decided to not have his bite of the laxative, Nanny would "butt" him until he did.

It all made a lot of sense to me.

Which comes back to "if it is natural", then it is a cave or something.

I would expect to know where they slept, ate and spent their time, then I remember that we are talking about gov employees and then realize that they are for the checks, not the animals....

I had a herd of goats in the Black Mountains, and a run in with the wildlife fools. They think that MAYBE my milk goat will give the Big Horn Sheep a disease and admit that they have NO PROOF of it.

SO IF MY GOAT SET ONE FOOT OFF MY MOUNTAIN, THE GOV WOULD SHOOT THEM!!!!!!!!

And did to another man in the Black Mountains, 20 miles north of me.

All this so a rich man can go and shoot a Big Horn, for the horns to go on the wall, as the meat is not said to taste good. It would be very old to grow trophy horns.

OK, so, I will get off my soapbox.
