Al-Qaeda Still a Threat, U.S. Still at War, CIA Director Says
March 9 (Bloomberg) -- The al-Qaeda terrorist network blamed for the Sept. 11 attacks remains intent on obtaining and using catastrophic weapons, CIA Director George Tenet said in his annual report to the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee.
``America is still at war,'' Tenet told senators today at a hearing in Washington. ``The steady spread of Osama bin Laden's anti-U.S. sentiment ensures that a serious threat will remain for the foreseeable future.''

PARIS (AP) - An extremist group known for deadly bombings and a brutal campaign to create an Islamic state in Algeria is moving to establish stronger ties to al-Qaida, raising fears the militants may launch terrorist attacks beyond their North African territory.
The new leader of the Salafist Group for Call and Combat, an armed organization whose decade-long aim has been to overthrow the Algerian government, declared allegiance to Osama bin Laden's network in the fall.
