The Senate will begin another debate on federal gun laws this week, and at least one issue may put it at odds with Republicans in the other chamber.

A Republican-led bill to immunize gun makers from wrongful-death claims is expected to hit the floor tomorrow, but Democrats and liberal Republicans will propose an amendment to extend the federal assault-weapons ban, possibly setting up a showdown with the House.

Which liberal Republicans?

Dear NRSC,

Go pound sand. I'll donate to candidates directly. And none of those candidates will ever promote gun control and continue to receive my support.

Sincerely,

freedomcrusader

We need a list of the RINO's or Lib-Republicans that are at risk here.

Does GOA have such a list or is there another way to identify the problem children?

"Assault is an action, not a device."

Well, it only makes sense, after all "guns kill".

This is so stupid. Like I said before, Chicago Mayor has banned guns from the city for the last few years now. Completely Banned!!! Yet, still Chicago has managed to become the number one murder capital within that time. How is that possible if a gun ban works? Also, even with the gun ban, most crimes that used a firearm where not committed with an "Assault" weapon but rather a hand gun. Yes, the very thing that has been banned by the Mayor.

This suggests a huge black market. Criminals are not walking into a store saying, "uhm, yeah i would like that 9 mm so I can increase my drug sales".....no. Criminals have always been getting guns with no S# or registration. The best preventive measure is a good deterrent, actually enforce the laws that you already have.

Also, if manufacturers should be held responsible for the crimes committed by their product then the Dems would surely support the same concept on a global scale. Once we convict Saddam we should also file against the arms makers that provided him with arms and put them in prison for life as well.

Sign this, GW, and you are a one-term president, just like your dad.

Strongly agree. I *will* vote for Kerry if this is signed.

Funny, that's EXACTLY what I told the nice lady who called this weekend. Not that I'm exactly one of your "big-time" donors, but they've got to start getting the message.

Whoa - good catch on the use of language there. I really need to hear more from the NRA on their position.

...but Democrats and liberal Republicans will propose an amendment...

A final wrinkle in the debate will be a bill from Sen. John McCain, Arizona Republican, for tighter regulation of the private sale of firearms at gun shows.

You had to read the whole article to find who the "liberal Republicans" were, but no big surprise.

Maybe if you were a member, you would learn what the NRA does. Did you notice the media never mentions any other gun group?

President Bush supports the assault-weapons proposal as well as the overall immunity bill.

If he signs this thing, I'm done with him now and forever.

If ya do this, don't vote for a President at all. A blank spot on the ballot says a heck of a lot more than a vote for Kerry.

Nope. The Tennessee Constitution states "No bill shall become a law which embraces more than one subject, that subject to be expressed in the title." So far the Rats in Tennesse haven't tried to pass a law entitled, "Stuff" or "Guns" and just pack it full.

The "Volunteer" State is to be commended both for its courage and its wisdom.
