Gun bills may trigger split

The Senate will begin another debate on federal gun laws this week, and at least one issue may put it at odds with Republicans in the other chamber.

A Republican-led bill to immunize gun makers from wrongful-death claims is expected to hit the floor tomorrow, but Democrats and liberal Republicans will propose an amendment to extend the federal assault-weapons ban, possibly setting up a showdown with the House.

The point of voting for Kerry is to bring on the left police state. The sooner we get it all the sooner we can get rid of it. Bring it on, and Molon Labe will be my new mottos.

Strongly agree. I *will* vote for Kerry if this is signed.

Other than the possibility of Kerry as president, what will that get you? The chance to fight in the streets while I'm still able bodied.

The NRA never found an anti-gun bill that they wouldn't compromise with.

And their idea of compromise is only giving away half the farm ... this year that is. It's never even giving something to get something else back. That would be bad enough as one doesn't give up essential liberties, not for safety, not in an attempt to stave off giving even more away, not ever.

This ought to be a no brainer. For the AW ban to expire, Congress has to do absolutely NOTHING

It would be if it weren't for the fact that most of the politicians, virtually all of the DemocRats and a good chunk of the Republicans as well, want the thing to pass, if only they can find a way to do so without raising too much of a stench.

Hate to tell 'em, but the stench is already pretty foul, and we are watching them intently for the next "contribution" to the steaming hot pile.

How many times can the NRA repeat they are fighting for the sunset of the AWB?

They've said things like before, and then caved at the last instance and/or covered up for their "favorite" policritters who voted for one of these abominations. Why should we believe them now?

The only reason I sort of tend to this time is that Neal Knox is reporting the same thing, and there is certainly no love lost between him and the NRA management and so called leadership, since they worked actively to toss him off the board.

Did you vote for Bush in 2000????????

Don't know about him, but I did not. I read his campaign promise to sign the extension then. No way was I going to reward that sort of thing. Still overall I'm glad we had him and not AlBore when Al-Qaida attacked.

Since he's still supporting renewal of the ban, when it would have been easy to point to "new data" developed under his administration showing that the ban was not effective and thus no longer "common sense". He could say that Congress was wise to put in a time limit to allow for just such an evaluation. But no, his spokescreatures continue to state that he still supports the making permanent of the ban, so I figure he *really* does support the ban, rather than the 2000 promise being one of expediency to get the media off his case on the issue.

Did you notice the media never mentions any other gun group?

Yep, they often give the NRA credit for the actions of the other groups. Plus, for the sheeple, it's easier to focus on a single Big Bad NRA, than admit that support for the RKBA is widespread among the population, and that the NRA is actually very mild in it's defense of it, at least compared to other groups.

"Oh, I can see some differences:
- A possible end to the estate tax
- An effective war on terrorism
- Privatizing Social Security
- School choice
- Ban on partial-birth abortions"

All but the WOT has not happened, how do we know that the others are not just pandering to us?

That is so brain dead stupid! The history of the world has shown that from North Korea to the former Soviet Union to Cuba to China, leftist police states tend to last for generations.

"If the 2nd revolution is to be fought, it must be while my generation can still squeeze a trigger, and remember why we are doing so."

The problem is that there are many here that are not willing to fight. If they were, we would not be having arguements about voting/not voting for Bush/Dems. Face it, some are just like France/the UN, they would rather not confront someone that is not behaving correctly. They think it will just go away.

Largely because of that vote, the house is solidly Republican.

Wonder if Bush and the Pubbies are aware of that? Or if they care? I suppose we'll be finding out over the next several months.

The chance to fight in the streets while I'm still able bodied.

Are you that anxious to get into a shooting revolution?

If you help to elect Kerry, you not only get the AWB extended, you also get maybe one or two more Ruth Bader Ginsbergs on the Supreme court, you get someone who treats terrorism as a law enforcement problem rather than a war... just to name a few -- all in one nice tidy package wrapped with a pretty bow. Unless you are a DU troll (and considering that on another post, you said you wanted to "bring on the left police state", I wouldn't doubt that you are), is that what you really want?
You'd deliberately put this nation in danger for no other reason than out of spite, simply because you're p!issed off at Bush. Feh.

The NRA repeatedly stated the AWB fight started back when we needed the A rated legislators in office so they could sunset the ban.

And I think it was yesterday that a thread ran on FreeRepublic about the NRA wanting North Dakotans to thank Daschle for his support of the legislation to protect gun manufacturers. I can't wait to see what rating Daschle gets this next election. Like Ronald Reagan said, "Trust but verify."

The gun grabbers for some reason want to fight this war now rather than wait till we are dead then there will be very little opposition to their programs.

There are some very major events that are going to take place before we are dead.

I spent a Good deal of time at the rifle range today and was impressed by a number of young shooters (mid twenties type) there. One was a pretty new shooter, d@mn good with a rifle and pistol too. Don't put the younger generation aside too quickly.

"I'll vote Consitution party probably. And if whoever's on that ticket is a jerk, I'll go blank. "

Peroutka is no jerk. He's the only candidate running for president that will abide the presidential Oath of Office to Protect and Defend the Constitution of the United States of America. Check my home page for a link.

I for one will not support W if pushes the stupid Assault Weapons ban. I am sick of rhinos selling out our rights. I would rather have a Dem in the whitehouse than a republicrat. If Bush keeps pushing for the ban. I just send my $ to the NRA. The RNC better not call me again. I chewed out a RNC fundraiser right around the time scotus ruled on CFR. I let him have it then and will do it again. I am tired of chosing the lesser of two evils.
