U.S. Forces Have Bin Laden 'Surrounded'

Osama's Last Stand? U.S. Forces Have Bin Laden 'Surrounded' - Report February 21, 2004 mensnewsdaily.com According to a British newspaper, U.S. special forces have Osama bin Laden 'surrounded' and 'boxed in' on the northwest border of Pakistan and Afghanistan. The Sunday Express is reporting that the fugitive terrorist leader has been "sighted" and is now being monitored by satellite. The report quotes a Washington intelligence insider, saying, "He (bin Laden) is boxed in." Yesterday, Whitehouse spokesman Scott McClellan denied reports that bin Laden had been captured. "That would be news to everybody in this room," McClellan told reporters. "No, I haven't heard anything - haven't heard anything like that." Meanwhile the Washington Post today published the first of a two-part series claiming that the search for bin Laden has been plagued by political disputes and near-misses. According to the Post, between 1998 and 2000, the CIA and the Clinton Administration were paralyzed over policy disputes involving the legalities of engaging in covert operations inside Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. Last week, the commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan said the effort to find bin Laden and Taliban leader Mullah Omar was entering a new phase. U.S. Army Lt. Gen. David Barno said the "sand in their hour glass is running out." Barno said that the new operation would employ a "hammer and anvil approach" that would use Pakistan military forces as a Pakistan-based "anvil" against which U.S. forces would "hammer" al Qaeda fugtives from the Afghan side of the boarder. Tonight the Discovery Channel will be broadcasting a program exploring The Search for Osama Bin Laden. Report filed by Mike LaSalle

What the hell does that mean? That could be the area the size of Ohio with the mountains of the Rockies (with no roads and lots of caves).

Hey, you blew my secret identity. :-|

I thought the phrase was kinda catchy. It gives a sense of having the bad guys -almost- caught, like when Chief Moose was on TV spouting what sounded like nonsense.

Then the DC snipers were trapped in circumstances similar to Sadaam Hussein, dirty, hardly awake, malnourished and undignified.

More like "Hammer and Jell-o". Pakistan does not seem to want OBL captured or killed. Well, maybe killed...

It would be great if Bin Laden, Ayman Al Zawahri and Mullah Omar were killed in the same place. I think it will happen soon.

I think our intel probably knows the general area and are tring to force Bin Laden and crew to move. Hence the media leaks..

We've been doing it for years. Reference 'Charlie Wilson's War'. The book is unbelievable. It's hard to believe a single congressman could run a multi-billion dollar war for several years.

You're right, Tom. "It is hard to overestimate the foolishness of liberals and Democrats." It is also hard to overestimate the extent to which the press will support and defend them with the most crass--and baseless--propaganda.

Democrats, "Liberals", and the so-called "journalists" of the Mainstream Press are engaged in a jihad, whose purpose is to remove President Bush from office and elect a Democrat President. Anything that supports this jihad they will do.

The Lefties haven't forgotten. They just ignore it now. On a call-in radio show last week one called the attack an "abberation in our relationship with the international Muslim community". They just don't get it.

Awful soft "anvil" they're using.

I looked for that phrase on google and came up with a few articles that questioned the origin of the phrase. Prior to Moose and now you, I have never heard that phrase before... turns out, I am just not well-read.

While that makes for great FR red meat, if you listen to what these people actually say you'd know that they don't really care who wins our elections. An infidel is an infidel, regardless of political party. Unless we have some potential candidate who plans to cut Israel off at the knees - which, as I sure you know, we don't - our electoral politics are of little concern to these lunatics.

I can empathize with that- My 20 year-old cousin was in Iraq. He came home a couple of momths ago (alive and uninjured, thank goodness). I was enormously proud of him, but I was worried sick the entire time he was gone!

Please thank your relatives for me, and please tell them that I wish them a safe and successful mission, and a speedy return home. You will all be in my prayers. :)

Take care,
Rebecca
