The Van Horn City Council met Tuesday evening, February 17th, and learned that Texas Western Municipal Gas Corporation will make its final bonded indebtedness payment on March 1st.
Under the terms of the bond indenture, once the bonds are paid off in full, the gas company will revert to the city for operations and control.
Council learned that once the payment is made on March 1st, all that will remain is for the bond trustee to release the lien and Texas Western Municipal Gas Corporation will transfer to the city automatically. Council members, after discussing the transition process, decided that the gas company offices would remain in their present location, with the current staffing, and it would simply become an additional department of the town.
It was decided that City Administrator Becky Brewster be appointed to a vacancy on the gas board of directors to facilitate the transition process.
With respect to other agenda items considered by council, the following actions were taken:
* Appointed Paul Blankenburg to fill a vacancy on the Main Street Advisory Board.
* Approved the appointment of Linda Tarango-Rodriguez to fill a vacancy on the Van Horn Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors.
* Approved entering into an agreement with PCSI to perform janitorial and custodial services for the town for a one year period.
* Approved an agreement with the Rio Grande Council of Governments for the 2004/2005 Solid Waste grant program for code enforcement activities.
* Approved payment of bills amounting to some $56,441.93.
* Following a behind closed doors session, council approved raises for city staffers and employees to be effective on April 1, 2004.
* Held a budget work session on the Fiscal Year 2004/2005 budget. Set the official date for the budget hearing for March 2, 2004
