WASHINGTON--Former Alaska Gov. Jay Hammond said Saturday that President George Bush should make an Alaska-like dividend for Iraqis a central element of his re-election campaign.

Hammond made the remark after delivering a history and defense of the Alaska Permanent Fund dividend to the annual conference of the U.S. Basic Income Guarantee Network. The organization wants governments to offer all citizens, regardless of their own means, enough money to live. It says the Alaska dividend, which Hammond helped create while governor, is "the only example of an existing basic income guarantee in the world today."

I can picture it now -- Arabs and Muslims moving into Iraq by the millions.

What free spending welfare statists don't want to know is that existence, just like freedom, is not free.

An able and mature person that will not work does not deserve to exist.

The funds would be for Iraqis whose families lived in Iraq during saddam's reign of terror. I think it would be fair compensation for their misery which was brought on by the butcher saddam and his kleptocrats.

Plus, the Iraqis would have far less poverty and a real HAND-UP to better lives.

saddam robbed those folks blind.

THEY ALL DESERVE TO PROFIT FROM THE OIL MONEY!!

Giving the people the oil revenue also addresses the problem that in all the terror supporting dictatorships, oil money can be disposed of by the dictator. It works against societal arrangements where the rulers must have support from their people.
