Seymour, Campbell and Fong - yes indeed.... proof positive that moderate or liberal Republicans are the magic key to victory. Oh wait, they are proof that this is NOT the key to magical victory. Having strong contrasting views, advancing them in a way that motivates your base and interests crossover voters in your opponents camp might be the way to win.
I like to remind everyone here (when they do the McClintock attack drill) that McClintock was the TOP Republican vote-getter in the state in 2002, and outpolled Bruce McPherson and Gary Mendoza, two very liberal Republicans who also ran for statewide office.
Dang I hate that McClintock lost by less than 1% of the vote... I just wanna punch my computer screen when I see people sneer that "Tom McClintock can never win statewide office, that's why we need to support people like Arnold Schwarzenegger."

Considering that Tom got NO SUPPORT from the Party in that election, and the way Simon got screwed by the same "team," I can't blame you for your anger.
If the RINOs had done what they expect of conservatives, Simon would be governor, and we wouldn't be having this conversation.

BTW, if you guys pull it out for Kaloogian and maintain a strong grass-roots based campaign all the way to the end, I might almost forgive Russo/Marsh for the way the Simon campaign booted that election (Wilson/Jones notwithstanding).
