I think one of the reasons for the reticence about this whole issue, even after we seem to have negated most of it, is the awful realization that we have the equivalent of a dozen eggs on our face. No one likes to be taken for as much of a ride as Pakistan seems to have taken America.

Even with Tenet's assertion that the US has known about this activity on the part of Pakistan since the mid-80's, our geostrategic imperatives forced us to look the other way. At the worst, we did not know, and/or refused to believe the Indians, who, IMO, have been ringing the alarm bell on Pakistani proliferation for a while.
