I remember Jimmy Stewart read that entire poem on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Like many of his poems, they were funny and sad at the same time.

I am so sorry to read about the loss of your dog on Wednesday and also, of course, the death of Spot. I vividly recall my own anguish when my beloved Brunna died on 14 Dec 2001. A FReeper started a thread called "Welcome at Rainbow Bridge (A Tribute to Brunna)" which was such a great source of consolation I recommend you read it. I don't know how to post a link.
Perhaps its a bit gruesome but I keep Brunna's ashes close and they'll be going with me when I go. I miss him every day. Sure it gets easier in some ways but in other ways it just doesn't.
I have two new dogs now but I still grieve. My thoughts and prayers are with you in your grief.

My sympathies. It's been several years since my Scottie died, and I still miss her.
I really question the humanity of a person who can't appreciate a dog.
To: Neets
I know I've eventually a buried a piece of myself with every dog I've owned.
Still, I always "give my heart to (another) dog to tear"....happily.
Can't see myself living without one...or three...or four....:)
To: Salamander
Oh don't I know THAT!!!
I am seriously considering getting a play-mate for my DaisyDog...
...she's just about 1 yr and 2 months but I think a companion is something she needs and would surely like.

I will look for the thread. Chad was the first one to tell me about the Rainbow Bridge poem, so I'm aware of it...it's very comforting, thank you. It's nice to imagine him whole again, playing with his friends (he loved other dogs). It's one of the few things that gives me any relief.
To: DaughterOfAnIwoJimaVet; MEG33; Vigilanteman
Thank you all. He's very mellow (unless you try to come in my house).
