A full web video of the extraordinary discussion among former Govs. Jerry Brown, George Deukmejian, Pete Wilson and Gray Davis on the question of whether California is governable is now online here. The joint interview was done for California Connected, a public television public affairs program, by host Lisa McRee. Among the nuggets: Deukmejian recommends legalizing all forms of gambling throughout the state, and Brown (backed by Wilson) suggests letting governors put initiatives on the ballot without a vote of the Legislature. Davis and Brown, meanwhile, say a return to the part-time Legislature might be in order.

I lost all respect for Weintraub when years ago he blamed the conservative Republicans for their bad image. They should try harder to look nice, he advised. A cursory look through almost any Bee "news" article finds words like "ultra," "divisive," "extreme," "controversial" attached to anything Republican or conservative. Maybe the best and brightest Bee brains have stopped doing that nowadays. Many of us did complain back then. I've pretty much stopped looking at the Bee even online.
Then of source, during the recall he put out a desperate call from his blog for anyone to contact him if they had dirt on Arnold that proved that his stance on Indian gaming was racist. You see Arnold had former Republican governor Wilson and his people aboard so it must be racist.
Over the years I have seen the best and brightest Bee brains' opinion of talk radio, especially KSFO AM560, and it's very likely that he really felt that Ms Morgan was too red-neck stupid and lazy to have facts.
Fact is, Arnold said all along during the recall that he was against that particular law, SB60, and would work to repeal it. He never said he was against drivers' licenses for "undocumented workers."
All the people who were not star struck knew that. Certainly Ms Morgan and crew knew it. I wish Lee Rodgers, the main man on the show, had been there. I love it when that old Arkansas hillbilly explodes.
I and many others especially the crew at KSFO knew that Arnold was not against drivers' licenses for ILLEGALS. He just wanted a bill with a little extra restrictions. I have not listened everyday but it is not at all likely that anyone at KSFO was accusing Arnold of lying on that issue.
I read Arnold's official campaign web site at the time of the recall campaign. He was very clear that he would push for lots and lots of goodies for "undocumented workers." Of course, he rejected the "amnesty" word. Don't they all?
I'll probably be going back the AM560 S.F. mornings 0500 to 0900 because the spinning to support Arnold on all things at AM 1380 is making be dizzy. Gee, I wonder how Eric will spin that he is now against Prop 187 -- since it is likely Arnold will oppose it.
This is probably a lot more than you wanted to know.
I sure wish Lee Rodgers had been there. He loves guests with an attitude and you could see, feel, taste, and smell Danny boy's attitude before Ms Morgan, et al. asked him what the problem was.
Actually, no. I found it quite interesting to hear and compare to things I hear in LA on talk radio. My recollection is that most people believed AS was against drivers licenses. When asked, he would say things like 'we have to repeal that'. Only when pressed, did he add some partial phrase like "we need background checks" or "security and all of those things". When supporters were challenged, they implied "Arnold is just saying that for political reasons to satisfy the Dems and give them a graceful way to repeal it". I got into an extended discussion with jagrmeister a month or so ago. He specifically said it would never happen; Arnold won't support such a measure. He also accused me of not being able to "read the subscript".
Regardless of what was on his website or what he might have uttered, AS certainly wanted to give the impression that he was against drivers licenses. (not that I ever believed him, lol).
Some radio hosts in LA are finally dropping the blind allegiance to AS and starting to evaluate subjects on their own merit. They're not quite there yet, but I am hopeful!
Thanks for the input.
