You are right in that they do depend on this. I'd take it one step further. They Rats are quite sophisticated in the art of propaganda and they realize that almost half the electorate are illiterate, stupid sheeple and thus vulnerable to any knee jerk diatribe they hear from the TV news...where most sheeple get their news. These folks survive on headlines. Text is above their education level and so is research and the ability to operate a computer, much less use a library reference system. "Just give 'em their VCR, their loud muffler and their 500W woofer and they'll be as happy as pigs at the trough."
