My reading is that they are convinced getting him alive would be better for various reasons.

Saddam's sons' bodies didn't help a lot, it seems, among the locals.

Parading Saddam in humiliating ways helped tons.

Besides, slap a high tech brain wave cap on him--show him images, ask him questions, get the readings--go after his troops and the nukes accordingly.

Radical Muslims are more afraid of humiliation than they are of death.

Make a video of Osama, bound a shackled, being forced to give head to a 500 pound hog while having his butt whipped by a pair of girls in leather bikinis. Put it on satellite broadcast.

The way its done is to use some total relaxing drug, and hook him up to a breathing machine...stick his head in a positron brain scanner and ask questions..yes/no /true/false is immediately indicated on the scan. If a lie is detected then switch off the breathing machine for a few minutes..Osama will soon get the swing of things and sing like a canary.
