Cancer patient whose toys were stolen over holidays dies
ABC13 Eyewitness News (2/20/04 - HOUSTON) We have a sad update for you on a story we've been following for a few months.

Steven Rael, the 13-year-old cancer patient whose birthday presents were allegedly stolen by a local cab driver has died. Rael had been battling bone cancer and died earlier this week while visiting relatives in New Mexico. Days after his presents were stolen, a generous Houstonian treated him to a shopping spree.
Taxi driver Cedrick Edmonson is charged with felony theft. Police say he stole the boy's toys.

Ya know...you said it just right. It's about time we call these people who do these crimes just what they are. I am so sick of the PC garbage in this country today. It's OK to steal and steal from a dying child on his birthday but...it's not ok to express anger and call the perp what he really is? That's a bunch of garbage

The boy should have listened to the bible, and given the thief his robe too.

If I remember correctly, the other cab drivers turned him in. Did they contribute presents as well? I don't remember.

Thanks for you post about these brave kids and the link to Abi's caring bridge site. I just got back from another month long stay in the PICU with my own little guy. What you say about their bravery is very true.

It occurred to me, having worked with seriously ill people, that the emotional distress from the incident; the soaring high followed by the devastating low, may have contributed to his death. Perhaps this should be debated at Cedrick's manslaughter trial?
