Bush Bill Would Aid Mexico's Meddling in U.S.

There has been much well-deserved criticism of President George W. Bush's proposed amnesty and guestworker plan. But its possible effect on America's sovereignty has seldom been mentioned, even though that may be the most harmful in the long term.
Although the president's proposal is not specific to Mexico, it would benefit that nation the most. Some 5 million of the estimated 8 million illegal aliens here are Mexican, and Mexico would likely be one of the main sources of the new guestworkers and increased permanent immigration also called for in the Bush plan.
This is important because, in the 1990s, Mexico embarked on a campaign of extending its political authority into the United States - not just over Mexican immigrants, but also naturalized and native-born Americans of Mexican ancestry. There are 10 million Mexican-born people in this country (including 5 million illegals) plus more than 10 million additional Americans of Mexican descent.
Now, this is not the fantasy of reconquista - retaking the Southwest, lost in the 1846-'48 Mexican War. Instead, it is an attempt to set up a special status for people of Mexican origin, like the status Europeans enjoyed in China in the 19th century.

"It's the sovereignty, stupid." What's the point of fighting a war on terror on the other side of the world, if we surrender our sovereignty to a corrupt, backward, Third World neighbor?

"It's the sovereignty, stupid." The politicians don't seem to know the meaning of the word sovereignty anymore. We're being sold out. I never thought a Republican President would sell us out. Boy was I wrong.

Ditto. We have the best politicians corporate money can buy. That's why I'll be voting Perouka of the Constitution Party. I've had enough of their sell out.

Sheer distortion and misrepresentation of the article's point. But GW and his partisans won't be able to lie their way to re-election on this issue. The ground is shifting out from under all the GOP hacks, and it won't stop shifting until GW wakes up and realizes that the 12 million illegal Mexican entrants in this country aren't going to vote him back into office.

I mention it too much for many people.

Thanks for the post. I'm amazed by the way non-Hispanics simply assume that *all* Hispanic citizens of this country, or even a majority, support giving amnesty to illegal immigrants.
(BTW, like I've noted before to people on this forum---all non-Hispanic, I assume---who make a big issue of the particular word, the only folks I've heard using the term "wetback" in my 23 years living in the Southwest have been Hispanic citizens! ;) )

It really doesn't matter what the President proposesHow about the President standing up to Vicente Fox ---- tell him in no uncertain terms that it's time for Mexico to fix it's problems --- that people-dumping isn't going to be the solution. It's not good for the USA what is taking place --- and it's also not good for Mexico.

18 million [people of Mexican ancestry] in the United States, the majority of whom are U.S. citizens. And this is a long-term proposition for them: In June 2001, Juan Hernandez, former head of Fox's cabinet-level office for relations with Mexicans abroad, said on ABC's "Nightline," "I want the third generation, the seventh generation, I want them all to think, 'Mexico first.'" Don't worry, Juan.
Most do.

The entire thing is DOA in the House so don't get so worked up over it.

The mere suggestion of Bush's plan should be enough to wake even the deepest sleepers. It's inordinately clear what the agenda is.
