Edward Rothstein reports on a remarkable conference at the New School, called "Fear: Its Uses and Abuses." Gore delivered the keynote address and argued that it is the American government that is preoccupied with instilling fear (George Kateb, Eric Alterman, and other Left-wing worthies, expanded on the theme). This is similar, it was argued, to the irrational fear of Communism and the perversions of McCarthyism, "It was described as part of a counter-constitutional coup by a radical right." The speakers wanted to inspire fear, Bush "is exploiting the fears of the American people," as Gore put it. Of course, no one seemed to fear terrorists. And Gore argued that terrorism is not a threat, so shouldnt be feared. Jeff Jarvis reflects on all this (a few pages down under "Fear") and it is not to Gores advantage. Glenn Reynolds comes to the point:
"I was once pretty high on GoreI worked in his 1988 campaignbut hes been a complete disappointment. And now hes not just a guy who lost an election. Hes become a loser, and that transformation has been entirely his own work. And those of us who were relieved on September 11 that Al Gore wasnt the President are reminded, yet again, just why we were relieved. Hes too small a man for a job that big." I dont think any more has to be said on Al Gore.

Gore knows a lot of the use of fear...
Ed Assner with his invasive phone spam recorded a message putting fear into seniors that GW Bush was going to spend all their SS money...and put them out on the street...
And Gore's former bosses...well...how many raped women...were intimidated into silence...
Of course there was some "bi-partisonship" on that one

My Grandparents are STILL convinced that the Republicans are out to steal their SS. It has become a running argument between my father and they. They don't speak to me of course, I'm a "disgrace to the family" (their actual words).

They sound like they're from the same mold as my late father:
"There is no god but FDR, and Truman is His Prophet."
"Republican" was about the worst epithet that could be applied to someone. He went ballistic when he found out I secretly worked Goldwater while in high school.
I also went to Berkeley anti-war rallies, wearing a button of a 'peace symbol' modified into a B-52, captioned "DROP IT". Made'm froth!

And Gore argued that terrorism is not a threat, so shouldnt be feared. (snip)
Before Sept 11, even if the "threat level" would have been the highest, I would have had no fear of terrorism. It is a new era and I am so happy about W being in the White house to handle it. Gore's quote not only proves that dems are ignorant, it proves they are incapable of learning from their mistakes.
