I think the gay marriage issue is only a symptom of the real problem of judicial activism. Our president has allready defined himself fairly clearly on this issue. Democrats may find themselves in more trouble over judicial activism and fillibusters than they realize.

Absolutely correct. This may be the fissure that breaks the Judge gridlock. The SF Chron Manifesto reported that Barney Frank and others warned Newsom the timing was all wrong. Kerry is going to try and straddle this one and won't be able to.
This is a shot in the culture wars that will wake up voters who are not paying close attention. Here in the Bay Area the local newscasts are pushing the story with lots of video of the 'happy (male/male female/female) couples' kissing. It is infuriating many parents and people who usually could care less what someone does in the bedroom.
As long as the Media/Dems force this coverage the more angry the middle gets.
