HOPEFULLY, she is an older puppy and that is the explanation for her peeing on herself. I have a beautiful lab who was never abused, yet she behaved the same way when we first got her- around 9 months old. We got her from someone we know well. She would get very excited when we arrived home from work, but would way her tail only tenatively and pee all over everything! She is now 9 years old and VERY social to everyone.

I would say that she's over a year old. If a dog loses control of it's bladder while it's cowering, then I took that to mean that she had been abused in the past. Once she realized that I meant no harm and that I came bearing goodies, then she stopped that behavior. I'm a cat person, never had a dog, but this dog is just a doll. I sneak her food every day and when she sees me come out the back door she is beside herself with absolute happiness. LOL !!
