WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic presidential hopeful John Kerry (news - web sites) wrote 28 letters on behalf of a California defense contractor, who pleaded guilty last week to illegally giving money to the Massachusetts senator, The Los Angeles Times reported on Thursday.

Parthasarathi Majumber, owner of Science and Applied Technology in San Diego, also pleaded guilty to giving money to four Republican members of the House of Representatives.

"Members of Congress often write letters supporting constituent businesses and favored projects. But as the Democratic presidential front-runner, Kerry has promoted himself as a candidate who has never been beholden to campaign contributors and special interests," the newspaper said.

This is currently the ONLY article which on Yahoo/Reuters Political page which does not either promote the Democrats or criticize Bush.

I've seldom seen a more slanted "news" page. If you have the time, follow the link and vote for this article.

From SIFY NEWS (India) URL: [http://headlines.sify.com/2811news4.html?headline=John~Kerry~linked~to~Indian-American~scamster]:

Title: John Kerry linked to Indian-American scamster

Washington: US presidential candidate John Kerry is in the eye of a storm after revelations that he tried to help a defence contractor of Indian origin, who pleaded guilty last week to making illegal campaign contributions to the senator and four others.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Kerry sent 28 letters between 1996 and 1998, urging Congress and the Pentagon to free up federal funds for a missile system that contractor Parthasarathi Majumder was trying to build for US warplanes.

The letters were sent at a time when Majumder and employees at his Science and Applied Technology Inc. were donating money to the Massachusetts Democrat, the article said, citing court records.

Majumder, the former president and chief executive of Science and Applied Technology Inc, made the contributions to Kerry between 1993 to 1998 and also encouraged his friends and colleagues to do so, according to the US Attorney General's Office. Majumder then reimbursed those donors more than $20,000, according to the plea agreement. US election laws limit individual contributions to $1,000 to a candidate seeking federal office per campaign period. The law also prohibits corporations from giving money to candidates or using others to donate by proxy. Majumder, a US citizen born in India, faces a maximum penalty of five years and $250,000 in fines on charges of defrauding the government and one year and $25,000 in fines for making illegal campaign contributions. --Agencies (END OF ARTICLE)

"constituent businesses"

Political Geography 101: California has it's own two senators. It does not have to borrow them from Massachusets.

Way back from August 4, 2002, from "The Scrum"

KERRY DONOR INDICTED FOR CAMPAIGN FINANCE VIOLATIONS Parthasarathi Majumder and his company Science and Applied Technology, a defense contractor, has been indicted for illegal campaign contributions to John Kerry and four other members of Congress, according to a FoxNews.com report. The U.S. Attorney's office handling the prosecution says that there is no indication that any of the politicians knew that the contributions were illegal. According to the indictment, Majumder illegally reimbursed SAT employees for their donations by inflating their hours and paying bonuses through the SAT payroll department. Kerry's spokesman David Wade tells Fox News, "Mr. Majumder was among hundreds of thousands of contributors to Sen. Kerry's campaign and we assumed his contributions and those of his employees were made because they believed in John Kerry's candidacy." Wade added, "He'll be donating these contributions to charity." Posted by The Editor at 01:59 PM | Comments (0)

Er, David, WAS IT EVER DONE??

Now I call THIS "Bipartisan" !

GOP Reps. Randy (Duke) Cunningham and Duncan Hunter of California, Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., and former Rep. Joe Scarborough, R-Fla., all received donations from Majumder.Hmmm. More elephants than jackasses.

Hey, how much does a Kerry reference letter cost? It might be a very cost effective technique. Oh, sure, the price will go up if he is nominated, but it might be worth it. And, I guess, if you want him to write things that aren't exactly true ("Mr. Clinton did not have sex with that woman..."), that probably is extra.

This is a wonderful article because it clearly established that Hanoi John is for sale. I wonder what he does for the money he gets from the unions?

Political Geography 101: California has it's own two senators.

Boxer and Feinstein? Those two long ago ceased being senators for California and joined the Mandarin class of perpetual politicians. These two do nothing of import for California.

Come on! It's one of the oldest scams in the book to
give to both parties, since it has the effect of
dampening both parties' interests in pursuing the
illegal contributions question.

The real question is the magnitude of the quid pro quo.
With 28 letters, it certainly seems Hanoi John was highly
"incented." Now just why would that be?

I always listen to 590 AM. They are more conservative than any other show. SGT Sam is my favorite. He tells it like it is. Some callers don't think much of him.

Parthasarathi Majumder

That's not necessarily the same guy. "Parthasarathi Majumder" is like John Smith in India. (j/k)

But your supposition is not necessarily true, either.

I believe that a big wig San Diegan Indian-American, community leader in the forefront (Parthasarathi Majumder) is one and the same as our Parthasarathi Majumder who is also San Diegan Indian American donator to Senators and Congressman, and NRI community leader. If it were "Anil Gupta" in Nebraska being confused with "Anil Gupta" in Seattle, on the other hand, I can imagine the mixup.
