Comments From Bremer In Iraq Today (Thurs., Feb. 19)
FOX News | 19 Feb 2004 | FOX News

Posted on 02/19/2004 7:18:42 AM PST by July 4th

Two important comments from Paul Bremer today in Iraq:

First, he solidly stated that the June 30 transition deadline is still in effect. No change.

But perhaps a more interesting comment was this:

An Iraqi woman asked a hypothetical question that was apparently about the Presidential election. (Wasn't translated to English). Bremer responded, "But in this case, I don't expect President Bush to lose the election, nor do I expect there to be any change in the American policy. The American people understand the importance of what we have done here - liberating 25 million people from a vicious tyranny, fighting the global war on terrorism, and bringing democracy and pluralism to this country. We will continue doing that until we succeed."

I had a horrible thought.

Who would a (God Forbid) President Kerry appoint to replace Bremer? Ramsey Clark?

I think she asked: "I have seen polls showing that commie-pinko, Saddam and Iranian Mullah lover John Kerry leading... Should we worry if he become president?" (loose translation)

Bremner is so loved by the Iraqi people you wouldn't believe it. They have a loving nickname for him and they want to give him Iraqi citizenship. There are even people who want him to be president :o) They know it can never happen, but they love and honor him well. I have to laugh when I hear the democrats trying to slam him.

Yes, with great apologies to the President, perhaps the most succinct statement for Bush's re-election was made by someone other than himself.

Our POLICY in IRAQ most definitely will change if we do NOT re-elect George Bush. Those in positions of leadership will be replaced by LEFTISTS, one worlders, the Intelligence agencies will no longer have a GREEN LIGHT to accomplish their mission and our soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines will get their marching orders from POLITICIANS not Generals and Admirals.

I was thinking, maybe Bill Clinton, but he would be to much of a chicken to go over there.

I hope he means it.
All the talk about the UN coming back in here has me kinda worried for these people.
look at our excellent rebuilding track record (Germany, Japan) and look at the UNs track record (pick any miserable location they've had anything to do with in the past 30+ years) and compare results.

I'm interested in what you say about the Iraqi attitude about Bremer. I've not really seen or heard anything about this before. To be sure, I'm not challenging you in any way, but where have you picked this up from? I know there have been at least some opinion polls done that are positive about our role in Iraq, but I don't recall every seeing anything about Bremer's "popularity."

That's the way I translated it also :-)
